As a conductor, Joe lio has performed with a number of orchestras including Berliner Symphoniker, Bern Philharmonic Orchestra, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Stettin symphony orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Toyama, Wiener Stadtorchester, etc. His conducting teachers were Jorma Panula, Colin Mettes, Johannes Wildner, and Masterclasses include Neeme Järvi, Günter Neuhold, Neil Thomson and more.

In 2019, he was selected as finalist in the NINO ROTA international conducting competition (Italy). In 2020, he conducted Beijing BSJO Symphony Orchestra and completed three Beethoven symphonic concerts, consecutively playing all 9 symphonies of Beethoven, in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. In 2024, He conducted the Beijing BSJO Symphony Orchestra and completed three concerts, playing Anton Bruckner's symphonies 4, 6, and 7. His concert repertoire includes not only classical works, but also lots of modern works such as Luciano Berio, Bohuslav Martinu, Tristan Murail, Reich Steve, Gerard Grisey, and other.
